The History of destiny ranch

New Owners in 2022

When William & Karen Payne retired in August, 2022, James & Shari Cornell purchase the mobile beef sales portion of the Destiny Ranch operation.

When William & Karen made the decision to retire, it just so happened that James & Shari were looking to expand their already growing beef sales business, called Cornell Cattle Co.  and this seemed to be a perfect fit to purchase the Destiny Ranch equipment and customer base in order to expand and continue to provide top quality beef to Oklahoma families.

James & Shari started their farm over 25 years ago, when their children were young, by purchasing their oldest son's first bred heifer.  From there the herd continued to grow, with their boys joining 4-H & FFA and showing steers and selling the beef.  As the years have gone by, people continue to purchase sides of beef from the Cornell's.  During the Covid19 Pandemic, the idea to sell not just sides of beef, but individual cuts to the public seemed to be a need for this area.  So, in 2020, James applied for the license and started selling out of the shop in Roff.  As the sales grew, the thought of being able to transport more meat and sell at mobile sites intrigued them, so then they found William & Karen and the rest is history.

Family Tradition

Established in 1995, the ranch resulted from the vision of family patriarch William Payne.  Having had years of experience off-shore, William  wanted a ranch folks could be proud of and land they could work.  The ranch promotes cattle bred, born, raised and processed in Oklahoma and  sells beef directly to consumers from the ranch, Norman and Shawnee.  Destiny Ranch Beef sales is a local beef provider.

Today, all family members are involved, if only occasionally, and the ranch remains a true family business as well as a place of exploration, education and FUN!

Cattle Operations

Cattle Operations

Cattle Operations

Destiny Ranch is a commercial cow/calf operation.  The ranch has predominately  transitioned from a stocker operation to primarily a cow / calf operation yet retains a small stocker group of cattle.

Currently the ranch consists of 169 head of commercial Hereford cows; 4 registered Angus bulls; 20 head of registered polled Hereford cows; and 2 Hereford bulls. Destiny Ranch has a spring and fall calving program to facilitate sufficient quantities of animals for the ranches finished retail beef program ~ Destiny Ranch Beef.

Destiny Ranch Beef has a license to sell beef by the pound, same as a grocery store, to individuals in local communities.

Natural Grazing

Cattle Operations

Cattle Operations

Located in the south central region of Oklahoma, Destiny Ranch operates on 920 acres of native grass range.  The ranch utilizes intensive grazing management with continuous movement of cattle onto fresh growth native forage at the highest protein and nutrient levels.  The ranch utilizes over 40 miles of single wire electric fencing for perimeters and an additional 12 miles of poly wire to control smaller grazing areas

Destiny Ranch uses fresh well water for the cattle operations. At no time do our cattle drink from or come in contact with pond water. Pasture water piping has been installed on over 50% of the ranch and the areas without piped water the ranch has trailers to haul water to the remote areas. Water is hauled daily to the grazing areas without permanent water stations. Clean short distance to source of water is important to increasing and maintaining gain and herd health.  With these practices in mind, our cows are happy.  Which in turn means our consumers are happy with beef purchases.
